What is the Reflect Assessment?

So how do we examine ourselves?

The Bible tells us in Hebrews 4:12 that not only is the Word of God living and active, but that it will "penetrate" or "judge" our hearts.

As Christian educators we must follow the Ephesians 4 mandate to equip our students to become spiritually mature reflections of the fullness of Christ, but without an accurate assessment, we are simply left with a "one size fits all" approach of asking both teachers and students to "try harder" when it comes to spiritual growth and understanding.

The Reflect Assessment is a simple tool that connects your students to The Word of God in an understandable way and equips them to read and respond to The Word of God while personalizing their faith.

The result is an understanding that produces fruit in their lives.

How do I use it with my students?

Just like any class in school it is important to give our students opportunities for formative assessment.
The Reflect Assessment gives students the opportunity to train themselves to read and respond to the Word of God in a formative way.

So how do teachers utilize the tool?

Classroom teachers introduce The Reflect Assessment at the beginning and end of a semester to give students the opportunity for a time of personal "self assessment."

It is crucial that The Reflect Assessment is not attached to a grade and that students have the opportunity to self assess in anonymity within a classroom environment. While it is likely that some students may seek out a teacher or trusted advisor to help them take the next step in implementing their personal plan, it may or may not be the teacher who is administering the assessment.

The best way to utilize the tool is to explain how and why it works and then to give the directions and simply ask students to read through the assessment and highlight or underline the parts of the assessment that truly seem to resonate with them or reflect where they are at.
